Cong targets Badals for compromising State security

Politicising the Pathankot terror attack, Punjab Congress has decided to launch an attack on the Government on infiltration.

Senior party leader Sunil Jakhar on Wednesday accused the State Government for not taking lessons from the Dinanagar infiltration and letting the State exposed to the second militant attack in a short span of six months. Earlier, Congress Chief Capt Amarinder Singh, former chief Partap Singh Bajwa and ClP leader Charanjeet Channi had criticised Government for security lapses.

Jakhar said that lapses on security by the State Government led to the soldiers death in the attack.

Taking on the Government for taking the security of the State lightly, Jakhar said, “Instead of making tall claims on modernisation of Punjab police, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal should tell people about the steps that had been taken by the Government after the Dinanagar infilteration around six months back.”

He said that the seriousness of the Government on the issue of security can be gauged from the fact that the State could not avail the funds of `150 crore from the centre, that were allocated to the State for modernisation of police under the 13th Finance Commission.

Raising question on the recently launched Teerath Yatra scheme, Jakhar said that while State Government has not granted funds for modernisation of police, the funds are being spent on populist measures like Teerath Yatra.
