Punjab Congress on Saturday demanded CBI probe into synthetic drug racket to expose the nexus between ruling SAD-Police and drug traffickers who are playing with the lives of innocent people.
“Drug menace has gripped entire Punjab but Malwa region is worst-effected. Drugs and cancer have made the life miserable for people in Malwa. Ruling Badal family is fully responsible for the drug menace and high rise of cancer,” said Congress leaders from Malwa region, in a joint statement. They said that while in Punjab at an average, 70 per cent youth were either addicted to drugs or using narcotics, the instance in Malwa was much higher. They said that drugs were easily available and Police is a mute spectator.
Maintaining that many such sharks were active in Malwa area, they said that it was astonishing that Deputy Chief Minister-cum-Home Minister Sukhbir Badal was not aware of drug racket running in the State. “Revenue Minister Bikram Majithia is directly involved in murky deals, including synthetic drug and liquor trade, sand mining and real estate cartel. He is Punjab’s enemy number one and now stand exposed,” added the Congressmen while demanding his dismissal from the Cabinet, and to make him co-accused along with Jagdish Bhola, Maninder Singh Aulakh and Jagjit Singh Chahal — the three key accused in the case.
