Cong's ‘dharna' a conspiracy to weaken protest: AAP

Published on:

The Aam Aadmi Party, (AAP) Punjab has termed the proposed 'dharna' being staged by the Congress at Sambhu border on December 14, as a deep-rooted conspiracy to torpedo the peasant movement at the behest of the ruling BJP.

The state president and Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann said that the Congress is working as the B-team of the BJP to benefit corporate houses, adding that it was going the whole hog to torpedo the farmers' movement before it reached a conclusive end.

Taking an exception to the uncouth remarks made by Congress Lok Sabha member Ravneet Bittu against the struggling farmers, Bhagwant Mann said that the Congress MP, in cahoots with the Central Government, is indulging in passing offensive remarks against the farmers with intent to derail the movement.

Raising a question of propriety, the Sangrur MP questioned as to why only the Congressmen in Punjab are indulging in finding faults with the peaceful protests by the farmers, when the world community had been all praise for the disciplined manner with which the farmers had been conducting the massive movement.

Mann said that even in the past, Ravneet Bittu had been trying to give a Khalistani color to the movement on toeing the lines of the BJP.

The AAP leader said that, instead of holding a 'dharna' at Jantar Mantar, the Congress MPs should stage a 'dharna' in front of the residence of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, who had stabbed the farmers in the back by inking a pact with the Modi government to save his family members from the ED.

Mann further said that the Chief Minister had earlier been sending advisories to the protesting farmers to listen to the 'dictates' of the Central Government, adding that, now that the movement had build pressure on the Centre, by giving a call to lay siege to the district headquarters across the country on December 14, the Congress party's decision to stage a separate 'dharna' on the Sambhu border is a deep-rooted conspiracy of the Congress to weaken the movement.
