With polling less than a week away, political parties in Chandigarh have sharpened their attack against the opponents.
A day after clash between BJP and Congress workers, the BJP slammed the arch-rival Congress stating that the ruling party has stooped to a new low and have now adopted violence to stop the positive wave of the BJP.Addressing media persons, Chandigarh BJP chief Sanjay Tandon said that the Congress party has anticipated its defeat in the lok Sabha elections 2014 and that is why it has plumbed new depths. Tandon claimed that Congress assaulted BJP’s workers when they were campaigning in Sector 56.
“The Congress workers who are not able to give satisfactory answers to the questions being raised by the BJP are now resorting to violence. I will urge the Chandigarh Administration and Police to look into the matter so that polling could take place peacefully in Chandigarh”, Tandon added.Hitting out at the Congress party, he said, “The UPA chairperson, Sonia Gandhi’s visit to Chandigarh will spell a doom for the Congress party.”
“It will be Sonia Gandhi’s first visit to the city after the Railgate scam. Is she coming to accolade the MP candidate, Pawan Kumar Bansal who was involved in various corruption casesIJ I want to ask Sonia why she allotted the ticket to scam tainted Bansal. She should also shed light on why Bansal resigned from the Union Railways ministry if he was clean. Her visit would confirm that Congress is supporting the corruption in the country” said Tandon.
He further said, “We have tried to know the pulse of the city residents through our poll campaigns and our findings say that it would be a clean sweep for BJP’s candidate Kirron Kher in the city. AAP and Congress party will fight with each for the second slot”.
Meanwhile, hitting back at the BJP, Chandigarh Congress issued a statement criticising actor Anupam Kher who had addressed public meeting seeking votes for his wife Kirron Kher on Thursday.Several senior leaders of Chandigarh Congress took strong exception to the statement made by Anupam Kher wherein he called people of Chandigarh to serve him as he is the “son-in-law of Chandigarh”.The leaders said that he may be the son-in-law of BJP but not of the city. Even BJP leaders who now claim party candidate Kirron Kher to be their sister threw eggs on her and showed black flags to her.
The Congress leaders reminded him that his wife is contesting elections on BJP ticket and they should contest elections on issues rather than emotional statements. They further advised him to desist from making emotional melodrama as citizens of Chandigarh are enlightened people and know everything.
The Congress leaders said that the BJP should stop from muddling otherwise they also have a lot to say about the personal life of BJP candidate which if revealed will pinch them hard.
