BJP's attempt to seek support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi on demonetization virtually backfired on Thursday in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly. Retaliating to the Private Member resolution brought by senior BJP legislator Mahender Singh, Congress MlAs demanded investigation against Prime Minister into the allegations of corruption leveled by Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi.

Congress raised the issue of Sahara pay off case against Modi, as the discussion started on demonetization and its role to root out black money and corruption from the country.

Participating in the discussion, Congress member Rajesh Dharmani said that social media had highlighted papers belonging to Sahara and Birla companies containing information of money, that was paid to Modi, when he was Chief Minister of Gujarat.

The averments made by Dharmani agitated the BJP members with leader of Opposition, Prem Kumar Dhumal demanding that the references made by Dharmani be expunged from the proceedings, otherwise opposition would also touch the issues like coal scam, 2G scam or Augusta-westland deals etc.

Deputy Speaker Jagat Singh Negi who was on the chair rejected the opposition plea stating that he could not stop a member of house to raise the issue as member have right of expression which should not be breached.

Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said that the inconvenience, which has been caused to common man due to demonetisation can not be supported. He said that Modi first took the decision and later thought about it.

Earlier, Congress legislator Asha Kumari said that the entire opposition would support Centre for eradicating corruption, but Government can't be supported for creating a chaos in the country.

BJP leader Satpal Singh Satti said the move of demonetization would help rooting out black money and corruption from the country and Congress members should support the move.
