Congress MP from ludhiana Ravneet Singh Bittu’s car was damaged in ludhiana on Sunday after about a dozen of protesters, including some women, gheraoed him. In the matter, police has rounded up four persons, but released them later. In a clear case of breach of security of an MP, some protesters led by one Charanjeet Grewal gheraoed Bittu’s vehicle when the latter reached the Circuit House to attend a programme organised by the district Congress committee president Gurpreet Gogi. The protestors smashed windowpanes of Bittu’s car and showed black flags while raising slogans against him.
Grewal alleged Bittu of not paying him the pending amount of Rs1 lakh since 2014 lok Sabha polls — allegations completely denied by Bittu. In fact, he alleged that the attack was “Government sponsored” as he had raised his voice against Orbit Bus company of Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal in the lok Sabha. Things went out of control when the Youth Congress workers entered into clash with media and tried to snatch cameras as they clicked photographs of protest against Bittu. When party’s MlA from ludhiana West, Bharat Bhushan Ashu tried to intervene and sort out the matter, he was abused and slapped by the Youth Congress workers.
Youth Congress leaders, including local office bearers Gurjeet Singh Seenh and Raman Subramaniam, hurled abuses at media and asked them to shut the cameras. Seenh has been issued show cause notice by the INYC president Raja Amarinder Singh Warring.
