In next 45 days, the Congress party in Punjab is planning to go full offensive and do things it has never done before.
Feeling the heat from the Aam Aadmi Party, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and a high-powered team of seasoned Congress politicians on Thursday decided to carry out a door-to-door campaign and trudge the path less travelled by visiting areas not on its map for months now.
leaving nothing to chance to regain its ground in Punjab, the Congress party would go for an extensive campaigning for the next 45 days.
During this period, the state Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh is all set to visit several districts of the state, including those he had never visited in the past few months.
Capt Amarinder, already going full throttle, has claimed to cover as many as 16 districts of the state. It has been learnt that the poll strategist Prashant Kishor, selected by Rahul Gandhi, had chalked out a plan and Capt Amarinder would soon start campaigning in 80 state assembly seats.
Alarmed over the growing popularity of the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab, the party has decided to go for door-to-door campaign, and maintain direct contact with the people.
The party has also chalked out a strategy to counter party infighting. It has been decided that the party would organise big sit-ins in which it would present a united face.
The strategy was drawn during the marathon meeting, chaired by Rahul Gandhi, with the state leaders, including Capt Amarinder, Kishor, senior leader lal Singh, Ambika Soni, Congress legislative Party leader Charanjit Singh Channi, to chalk out the party’s election campaign strategy for the ensuing state assembly polls next year.
Sources informed The Pioneer that the meeting discussed, in detail, the positives and negatives of the party in Punjab and also the ways, respectively, to take advantage of and deal with the same.
It has been learnt that Prashant Kishor had informed Rahul Gandhi that Congress party has huge prospect of coming back to power in Punjab, as the people are fed up with the nine-year “misrule” of the Akali-BJP regime.
During the hours-long meeting, the leaders also admitted that the party is facing infighting in Punjab. To deal with the same, the Congress would organise big protest marches or dharnas to present a united face of the party by roping in all the disgruntled leaders in Punjab.
