Punjab Congress on Wednesday reached out to the President Pranab Mukherjee seeking “immediate dismissal” of the Akali Dal-BJP Government in the State headed by Parkash Singh Badal “that has proved to be disastrous for the people”. Congress’ high level delegation, led by party’s national general secretary and State affairs in-charge Dr Shakeel Ahmad accompanied by state party chief Partap Singh Bajwa, called on the President and submitted memorandum in this regard.

“There is complete administrative and constitutional failure in Punjab necessitating dismissal of the present Government. Once known as the granary and food bowl of the country, the father-son duo, comprising Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his Deputy Chief Minister son Sukhbir Badal, has turned Punjab into darkness of gloom and despair due to their ruthless, insensitive, undemocratic, anti-people and oppressive methods,” read the memorandum.

It added, “There is no rule of law and the administration of justice has been completely eroded and subverted to suit their business and commercial interests. The bureaucracy and the police are colluding with the ruling Government and acting as managers to facilitate and promote the businesses of the Badal, Majithia, Kairon families.” It said that the people of Punjab were reeling under SAD’s ‘goonda raaj’ and anyone who raised his voice was suppressed with strong arm tactics of the police which was acting as a “private militia of the Badals”.

“The people were angry and the situation was so volatile and tense that it could explode any moment. Sensing the mood of the people, the Badals along with Sukhbir Badal’s brother-in-law and the Revenue Minister Bikramjit Majithia were conspiring to provoke communal tensions to divert people’s attention from the burning issues. This might set the clock back and push the state back into the dark days of terrorism,” stated the memorandum.

The party referred to the drug menace prevalent in the state adding that numerous inquiries and investigation were pending regarding the allegations of the involvement of r Majithia in this drug racket. It also expressed concern over deteriorating law and order situation leading to jungle raj allhging that the state is being ruled by a mafia.
