The Chandigarh unit of the Congress on Thursday launched a social media campaign questioning the alleged absence of BJP MP Kirron Kher from the constituency during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The cases are surging in Chandigarh everyday but the MP is seen nowhere. She should be touring the city to take stock of the situation and listen to public grievances but the second-time MP is missing,” said Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee president Pradeep Chhabra on Thursday.
The campaign is launched on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.
“Sansad Kirron Kher ji ek kaam karo, kursi chodo aaram karo!! Ghumshuda_Sansad_Kirron Kher,” read the posts of Congress, while claiming that the MP is missing from the city.
The Congress also asked the citizens to share the post so that the voice of the people of Chandigarh reaches all and possibly, even the missing MP.
Earlier also, a similar campaign was launched by the Congress on social media where photos of the posters announcing a reward of Rs 1,100 for anybody who gives information about Kher was shared.
Kher had on August 18 attended a video-conferencing held by Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Bandore to seek suggestions from MP and councillors to deal with the current crisis.
The Covid-19 cases crossed 5000-mark on Thursday reaching 5,065 in Chandigarh. 63 residents have died due to Covid-19 in the city.
Chhabra said, “The MP has not been seen in the public for the last few months. Though she attended a meeting with the Administration virtually a fortnight ago, she is not listening to people’s grievances.”
“The positive cases are surging at a fast pace and there is resentment among the public about the absence of local MP, he added.
A close aide of Kher informed that the MP is currently in the city and in regular contact with the offices of UT Administration to deal with the crisis.
Earlier, Kher had responded to similar allegations leveled by the Congress. In a viral video released in April, Kher had said she was being constantly targeted by certain people, who write against her on social media.
Countering Congress allegations about her going missing, the MP had said she doesnot like to get photographed while distributing food and added that her first priority is to ensure that poor people get food and ration in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic.
“I have been here in Chandigarh from day one and everybody should have known that. Everybody knows in the (city) administration,” Kher had said.
