With Congress and INlD extending support to the ongoing Jat quota stir, Haryana Cabinet Ministers on Tuesday accused the Opposition of misleading the people sitting peacefully on ‘dharna’ to fulfil their political motives.
In a joint statement issued here, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, OP Dhankar, Transport Minister Krishan lal Panwar and Minister of State for Cooperation, Manish Kumar Grover said that the INlD and the Congress are adversely affecting the feeling of brotherhood in the State to fulfil their political motives.
Criticising the Opposition for misleading the people sitting peacefully on ‘dharna’, the Ministers said that the open support of INlD and Congress makes it clear that the agitation was politically motivated.
The State Government has agreed to provide employment to family members of those who died during agitation last year. As many as 79 persons were imprisoned in cases registered during agitation, of which 11 were granted bail last week. However, various cases of heinous crimes were registered against 32 persons and the remaining would get bail whenever they would apply for it, said the Ministers.
On reservation demand of the Jat community, they said that BJP Government has given the benefit of reservation to Jats in Haryana after giving it in other States such as
Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi so as to uplift the
community.
Though the matter is pending in High Court, the BJP Government is strongly advocating for it in favour of the Jat community, they added.
The Opposition parties should also rise above petty politics and should not indulge in activities which may cause harm to the peace in the state as the agitation is not in the interest of the state, the Ministers said.
The former Chief Ministers, Om Prakash Chautala and Bhupinder Singh Hooda were not serious during their tenures in last 16 years to provide the Jats their right, they added.
