Soon after Anurag Thakur's innings as the BCCI president came to an end after the Supreme Court judgement, Himachal Congress leaders hurled political googlies at the Hamirpur MP.
Though Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh refused to comment on the matter saying it was between the Supreme Court and the BCCI, his son Vikramaditya took a dig at Anurag Thakur, who is the son of former Himachal Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, saying “Thakur was first removed from the post of BJYM chief and now he has been removed from the post of BCCI chief and now Dhumal and his sons would be ousted from the State polity.”
Youth Congress workers under the command of Vikramaditya Singh had burnt the effigy of Anurag Thakur on Sunday for misleading the Supreme Court and demanded his resignation.
Taking a dig at Anurag, Himachal Congress President Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said, “Anurag had lost his credibility by filing a false affidavit in Supreme Court.” He should not have filed a false document in Supreme Court as the politicians must maintain their morality and honesty, added Sukhu.
Another Congress leader and parliamentary Secretary from Hamirpur District, Inder Dutt lakhanpal said that SC decision was historic and sports associations should be free from political interference. Sports associations should be governed by people, who belong to sports only, said lakhanpal.
While Congress leaders kept hurling verbal missiles at the ousted BCCI chief, former CM Prem Kumar Dhumal, father of Anurag, coming to his rescue and said that the SC decision is against a body not against an individual. He said that SC had implicated governing council of BCCI and not Thakur alone.
Dhumal said Anurag had contributed outstandingly for the cause of sports and SC order would not be an issue in the state elections.
Anurag Thakur, who happens to be the president of Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) too, said in a press statement“ If SC judges feel that BCCI could do better under the retired judges I wish them all the best. I am sure Indian Cricket will do well under their guidance.
"For me it was not a personal battle, it was a battle for autonomy of the sports body. I respect honourable Supreme Court as any citizen should," he said in the statement.
