Cong Govt's days in HP are numbered: Dhumal

Himachal Pradesh’s former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal has claimed that the days of the Congress Government in Himachal Pradesh were numbered.

While talking to The Pioneer, the BJP leader said that Virbhadra Singh’s Government would fall like a house of cards, the day UPA Government collapses at the Center due to alleged widespread corruption, deteriorating law and order situation, multi-crore scams, black money of top politicians in foreign banks and unchecked inflation which has made the life of the common man unbearable.

He said thousands of avoidable transfers at the instance of vested interests within the Congress had assumed alarming proportions and brought the work of several departments to a grinding halt besides burden of crores of rupees on the exchequer of the state which was not yet economically viable.

He said some transfers were always done after the change of Government, but Virbhadra Singh had crossed all the limits in the administrative history of the State.

Dhumal alleged that the administration had come to a virtual halt ever since Congress came to power. Many key-posts were lying vacant and the government was indulging in witch-hunting.

Despite the fact that the BJP rule between the years 2007-12 had been adjudged as the best performance era by the impartial and independent agencies, the Congress, which came to power accidentally by “our mistakes”, was ironically condemning every thing “we did”, he bemoaned.

He also ridiculed the Congress leaders for their dismal failure in getting the special economic package granted by former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, revived which had been withdrawn half way by the UPA Government. He said after Nehru and Indira, Vajpayee was the third Prime Minister who helped Himachal financially.  Others only rendered “lip-sympathy” he lamented.

He said: “Instead of expressing gratitude to Vajpayee, Congress after coming to power removed the name of Vajpayee from several development projects. It was the meanest action of Congress.” Dhumal also warned that it had set a bad precedent which could boomerang on it when non-Congress Governments might do the same with hundreds of projects named after the members of the Nehru family.

The top BJP leaders including former Ministers have arrived in Kullu to participate in a meeting. However, some stalwarts including Shanta Kumar are not participating for one excuse or the other or probably to avoid wrath of the workers against the wrong distribution of tickets resulting in the loss of at least 16 BJP seats in the State.

Dhumal said at the meeting of State office-bearers at Kullu, a road-map would be drawn up to end the corrupt and unbridled Congress/UPA rule from the country.

Earlier, Dhumal was accorded a warm welcome at Slappar on the border of Bilaspur and Mandi districts where thousands of BJP workers had descended to greet him.
