Cong flays Govt of mortgaging State's property

Punjab Congress accused the SAD-BJP Government of mortgaging State’s property worth Rs 3,954 crore in the past four years.

“SAD-BJP Government has mortgaged prime properties worth Rs 3,954 crores of the Government through Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authorities from April 2012 to April 2016,” alleged the leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly, Charanjit Singh Channi, here on Sunday.

levelling serious allegations about the loan raising by the Government, Channi demanded a CBI inquiry into “this kind of loan raising” by the Punjab Government for infrastructure development works and construction of jails in Punjab under Optimum Utilisation of Vacant Government land (OUVGl) schemes.

“These loans raised by the Punjab Government are either being misutilised or directed to somewhere else for the purpose of benefitting the first family of Punjab,” he alleged.

Blaming Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his deputy Sukhbir Badal for the “mess”, Channi said the father-son duo had sold off Punjab and given the same properties to their near ones at throw away prices.

“Sugar Mills to canal colonies to jail sites to mental hospital to ashrams to PWD offices to district courts...nothing has been left which has not been lend by this Government in the name of development. This is a fit case for CBI inquiry,” said Channi.

He added the Badals had to tell the people of Punjab for taking this decision and mortgaging the prime properties.

The Congress leader promised the Congress, after forming the Government, would review these decisions taken by the SAD-BJP Government against the wishes of the people of Punjab.
