Calling for conducting a special session of Punjab Vidhan Sabha, the Congress on Sunday listed out several issues to be discussed thoroughly and openly on the floor of the House.
“SAD-BJP Government should call a special session of the State Assembly to have open discussion over the imposition of heavy taxes in reward of regularisation of unauthorised colonies, day-by-day deterioration of industries, non-payment of various arrears to the Government employees since January 2013, and embezzlement into the Centrally-funded Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan scheme,” said leader of Opposition Sunil Kumar Jakhar, All
India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary and MlA Ashwani Sekhri, MlA Raj Kumar Verka, MlA Sham Sunder Arora and MlA Bharat Bhushan Ashu, in a joint statement.“During Goa Shivir, Deputy Chief Minister proudly claimed that there is rise in income of State. If that’s true, then why new taxes are being imposed and Government employees are deprived of their arrears,” said Jakhar.
He said, “Formation of a committee to frame so-called policy to impose new heavy taxes in excuse of regularisation of unauthorised colonies, itself proved that all was done to fill the empty lying State Exchequer,” charged the Congress leaders. On one hand, Punjab Government called upon Congress-led UPA Government to give industrial package, but, on the other, it is enhancing inspector raj against industries following which businessmen are shifting out from Punjab.
“It’s high time to resolve above issues in the interests of general public,” they demanded.
