Cong faction takes up Dalit cause, to hold meet

The infighting in Haryana Congress has now taken a new turn with party men joining hands against Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on the issue of atrocities against Dalits in the state by organising a rally which has been deemed as an anti-party activity by the state Congress president.

Rajya Sabha member Ishwar Singh is organising an awareness 'sammelan' at Karnal on June 7 for the upliftment of the Dalit and backward classes in the state in which Birender Singh and Kumari Selja are going to participate.

Ishwar Singh has alleged that the state government has failed to take serious initiative to curb the incidences of atrocities against the Dalits which clearly depicts the social and political degradation of the state which has witnessed a steep rise in crimes against the backward classes in the nine-year of the Congress led government.

According to sources, leaders among the party were waiting for the completion of the MC polls before starting their political attacks afresh on the Hooda government. Just before the civic body polls, Birender Singh had said that Kumari Sailja being a woman and a Dalit leader is the best suitable person for the post of party president in the state which irked the Hooda camp to the core.

Now, after the elections, they are again sharing joint platform at Karnal on June 7, in which they will discuss the problems and atrocities on people of Dalit community and backward class.

Political experts say that by organizing such rallies, anti Hooda camp will be benefited in two ways. First it will help them to lure the Dalit voters which have been neglected by the state Congress under its president Phool Chand Mullana, who seems ineffective even among the people of his own community.

Secondly Kumari Selja, who is being projected as the only effective woman Dalit leader in the state, can be considered for the post of president.

However, Bhupinder Singh Hooda's loyalist and state Congress president Phool Chand Mullana is not taking such rallies seriously. He termed this rally as 'anti-party activity'. When inquired about the lack of disciplinary action against them, Mullana said, "I have informed the high command about it, and now it is up to them to look into the matter and act accordingly."

Mullana further added that the people who are advocating for the Dalits and people from backward class are actually indulging in cheap politics of caste only to dupe the people.

MP skips Rahul’s meet

Chandigarh: On May 8, another rebel Congress MP from Gurgaon, Rao Inderjit Singh, intentionally didn't attend the meeting of AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi at Indradhanush Auditorium, Panchkula, in which Gandhi had issued a warning to all sitting MlAs, saying that they can't take it for granted that they will get tickets in the coming elections if they fail to perform.

He even skipped the function at Sohna, Gurgaon in which AICC chief Sonia Gandhi came; besides this Singh had also termed Congress as 'private limited company' in the public 'Vikas rally' at Rewari on April 25. He had also formed a non political outfit ' Haryana Insaaf Manch' on March 3.
