Cong exposes Govt claims on Investment Summit

Published on:

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa on Thursday claimed that Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal was merely boasting about Progressive Punjab Investment Summit committing an investment of over Rs 66,000 crore in the State.

Supporting his claims on the information obtained through the RTI Act, Bajwa said that the Congress was in possession of copies of all the MoUs purported to have been signed by Punjab Government with the participating companies.

“The number of companies have defined the document as ‘Expression of Interest’ (EoI) and not the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Perhaps for the first time, I am hearing a new term, ‘Non Binding MoU’ evolved by Sukhbir Badal….Companies like Infosys, in the document marked as EoI have mentioned that they would make the investment of Rs 500 crore in next 10 years if the facilities are provided to them on their own terms and conditions,” pointed Bajwa.

He said Adlabs, an entertainment company, has shown interest to make an investment of Rs 1,200 crore but no location and time period is specified. Same is the commitment from Mahindra and Mahindra who have made an EoI for Rs 100 crore. The examples are numerous, he added.

The State Congress chief said that two months have passed after Investment Summit held on December last, no follow up progress is acknowledged by Industries department that “clearly shows how vague are the claims of SAD-BJP Government”.
