'Cong escalating communal tension in Punjab'

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Friday slammed the Congress for politicising sensitive issues concerning peace and communal harmony of Punjab.

“Congress wants to escalate communal tension for its vested political interests,” alleged Badal after paying tributes to RSS leader Brig (Retd) Jagdish Gagneja, who passed away on Thursday morning. Gagneja, who was shot at by unidentified assailants on August 6, died at a hospital.

“The Congress has a notorious track record of dividing people on communal lines for attaining power in the state,” he added.

Blaming the Congress for “black days” in Punjab, Badal said: “The state has suffered a lot because of Congress' dirty tantrums.”

He alleged that the party was once again resorting to its age old game of “divisive politics” to disturb the hard earned peace and communal harmony in Punjab.

Badal said that the Gagneja's killing was an issue concerning peace, harmony and amity, and not a “political” one.

“It is unfortunate that for their personal gains political parties were politicizing it,” he said while asking the political parties to refrain from

“stooping too low” on such sensitive issues just to get media attention.

The state has entrusted the case to the CBI and hoped for fast track investigations to nail the culprits, said the Chief Minister while assuring the state police to provide all help to CBI for expediting the probe.

He described Gagneja as a “suave leader” and an “able administrator” committed to the masses welfare. “His death was a huge personal loss. Entire Punjab grieves his death,” he said, adding that after serving the army he devoted his life for the state.
