Punjab Congress on Friday demanded a special session of Punjab Vidhan Sabha to deliberate upon and formulate the policies for the agriculture sector in the State.
Congress legislative Party leader Sunil Jakhar, expressing his concerns over the farmers’ distress in the State, demanded from the State Government to convene a special session of Vidhan Sabha to discuss the most important issue of agriculture.
Jakhar said that he has written a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal regarding the farmers’ issues demanding special session of Vidhan Sabha.
Criticising the Central leadership of BJP, its alliance partner SAD in Punjab, he said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president Amit Shah and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, during their separate visits to Punjab, did not announce any special package for the State’s farming sector.
He added that the senior leadership of SAD has continually failed to raise the issue of agriculture crisis with the Union Government resulting in farmers’ distress in Punjab.
Jakhar, accompanied by over a dozen MlAs, also demanded that the flood-affected farmers should be granted immediate and adequate compensation.
