The Punjab Congress’s Kisan and Khet Mazdoor Cell demanded waiving of loan of the farmers and the farm workers. The delegation was led by State party chief Partap Singh Bajwa to the Punjab Governor Shivraj Patil. The party, in its memorandum, pointed out that on UPA Government’s pattern, the Narendra Modi Government should also waive the loans of farmers and farm workers.
“The Centre should ensure remunerative process for farm produce by fixing MSP on Swaminathan Committee’s recommendations which provide 50 per cent profit over and above the cost of production and basmati MSP at the rate of Rs3,500 per quintal,” stated the memorandum.
