Punjab Congress on Monday demanded extension of the five-day State Vidhan Sabha session, starting from September 8, by 20 days.
“The thirteenth Vidhan Sabha session, which is going to start on September 8, should be at least extended by 20 days more,” demanded the Congress legislature Party (ClP) leader and the leader of Opposition Charanjit Singh Channi.
He said that the government knew this was the last session of the present Assembly and there were important issues to be discussed on the floor of the House regarding the working of this government for the last 10 years.
“Many important facts have to be brought to the public domain. The Congress party demands that the session should be of 25 days so that proper time is given to important discussions and the current issues of the State,” said Channi.
Channi also demanded special discussion on the issues of “drugs, law and order, farmers’ suicides, atrocities against dalits, non-deliverance of the welfare schemes announced by the present Government, derailed education and health system, closure of industry and neglected employees, traders and businessmen of the state”.
To chalk out the strategy to be adopted on the floor of the House, Channi has convened the ClP meeting at his official residence on September 1. “ClP meet will be chaired by State party president Capt Amarinder Singh. The members will discuss the strategy to be adopted in the coming session so that the ruling government is cornered,” he said.
