Cong burns CM's effigies in all 117 Assembly seats

Punjab Congress on Saturday set on fire effigies of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in all the 117 Assembly constituencies of the state, accusing him of selling off the interests of the people.

Badal effigies, along with effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, went aflame across the state amid strident slogans charging the Akali leadership in Punjab and the BJP leadership at the Centre with furthering its own vested interests at the cost of the interests of the people, who were standing today at the threshold of imminent disaster because Badal & Co. had failed to protect their concerns on water sharing.

Shouting slogans against Prime Minister Modi as well as the chief minister, party workers, led by their respective MlAs gathered in large numbers in their constituencies as the Punjab Congress kicked off its campaign for justice for Punjab on the SYl issue.

ludhiana, Jalandhar, Patiala, Hoshiarpur, Phagwara, Bathinda, Moga and other places saw the protest. The Congress workers vowed to take the fight on the SYl issue to its logical conclusion by ensuring that the people get their rightful due.

The party has already announced the next course of action on the issue, with a major rally planned for Sunday at Abohar, the tail-end of the SYl canal. The Punjab Congress has also sought a meeting with the President of India to apprise him of the problems that will be faced by the people of Punjab as a result of the court’s verdict.
