Punjab Congress on Thursday condemned Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his government for suppressing drug related deaths in the state.
“Not mentioning the exact cause of death in government record despite the families stating drugs as the reason amounts to cruelty,” said the Congress legislature Party (ClP) leader Charanjit Singh Channi.
He said: “You can’t alter the ground situation in the state hit by drug menace by playing with the figures. This shows as to how brutal your government can be even with the dead.”
Channi said that rather than resorting to such “nefarious cover up exercise”, the Government should confront the reality, as that would contribute in evolving proper policies to deal with this menace that had now become a social scourge.
He called upon the Chief Minister to visit families in which multiple deaths have occurred due to drugs about which detailed reports have appeared in the papers.
