Cong, BJP yet to release manifesto ahead of polls

Published on:

Ahead of Assembly polls in the State, the two national political parties, Congress and BJP in Haryana, are yet to release their manifestos as well as the first list of candidates, which were expected in the first week of September.

To thwart any possibility of rebellion and to maintain unity in the party after the ticket allotment, the political parties are treading cautiously in finalising the candidate list. According to sources, even the top leadership of both the parties is not being able to take a decision of possible candidates for the 90 Assembly constituencies in Haryana.

After witnessing internal party rift among several party leaders of main Opposition party in Haryana, Indian National lok Dal, after it released two lists of candidates and manifesto last month, BJP and ruling Congress do not want to repeat the same mistake. More than two dozens sitting and former MlAs of INlD left the party after release of two lists of candidate, which has compelled the party to reserve the third list of candidates.

The BJP after enjoying the overwhelming victory in the recent lok Sabha elections by winning seven out of eight seats across Haryana with the help of former Congress stalwarts including MP Gurgaon Rao Inderjit Singh, former

MlA Dharambir Singh etc. is now facing a threat from the same leaders while finalizing the probable candidates for Assembly elections. The party neither wants to face the wrath of its own leaders nor want resentment among those former Congress leaders who had joined the BJP with certain expectations. Five Haryana BJP MPs including Krishan Pal Gurjar, Dharambir Singh, and Rattan lal Kataria and others had also met Rajnath Singh, the Union Home Minister on Saturday at New Delhi and had requested him to take care of their interest while distributing tickets to the candidates for Assembly elections.

On the other hand, ruling Bhupinder Singh Hooda Government, which is already facing inner party rift on several issues after facing humiliating defeat in lok Sabha elections in Haryana, is facing anti-incumbency factor after ruling the state for two consecutive terms in State The Congress has to finalise 90 candidates out of 1200 aspirants’ applications.

The party had retained only Rohtak seat in lok Sabha elections and now, wants to test only winning candidates in the Assembly polls. The Chief Minister Hooda had already given an indication by saying that sitting MlAs should not think that their tickets are sure this time.
