Punjab Congress legislature Party (ClP) leader Charanjit Singh Channi on Thursday threatened to disconnect water and power supply to the Chief Minister’s residence in case the Government disconnects the power supply to any village of the State due to non-payment.
He demanded the Punjab Government should waive off the power bills of water works in the rural areas of the State.
Water is basic amenity and Government should protect the right of people for this basic amenity, he demanded.
“I will myself disconnect water and power supply to the residence of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal so that he realises the difficulties faced by the people in the villages facing the situation due to non-payment of power bills of tubewells of water works due to lack of paying capacity of the panchayats which charge the users,” he said. He said similar action would be taken against the Ministers by disconnecting water and power supplies to their residences, and the Congress MlAs would take this initiative.
Channi demanded the power bills for water works should be waived off by the Government immediately and the power connection, that had been disconnected due to non-payment, be restored.
