Cong accuses Akali-BJP Govt of obstructing mass mobilisation for Amritsar rally

Gearing up for the mega show in Amritsar on January 24, Punjab Congress on Thursday accused the ruling SAD-BJP combine for “creating hurdles” in their way for organising the party rally, besides “intimidating and threatening” bus operators.

The Akali-BJP Government was creating hassles and hurdles for us in every manner, alleged the senior Congress leaders, involved in arrangements for organising party rally on Saturday.

“Be it intimidating and threatening the bus operators not to provide buses to the hostile attitude of the local administration, the Akali-BJP Government is trying its best not to allow people to reach here,” said the party leaders including rally coordinator Rana Gurjeet Singh, OP Soni, MlAs Sukh Sarkaria, Raj Kumar Verka, Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa, among others, in a joint statement.

They alleged that they have been receiving complaints from the party workers that they were being harassed and discouraged at every level by the police and administration.

“The Government seems to have got panicky over the massive response from the public which is going to turn out into a mammoth rally of more than one lakh people on Saturday,” they said, adding that this apparently seems to be the only reason for the administration to create hurdles.

Congress leaders warned the officials against playing into the hands of the Akali-BJP leaders. “Governments do not last forever so beware lest you may not be able to face us tomorrow,” the party leaders warned.
