Punjab Education Department has constituted a Committee to explore reasons for school dropout in Government schools.
“Keeping in view the alarming dropout ratio in Government schools of three districts Bathinda, Mansa and Sri Muktsar Sahib, concerned district education officers (DEOs) of these districts have been asked to conduct detailed study to find out the reason for such high drop out ratio,” said State Education Minister Daljeet Singh Cheema.
The Committee would also suggest ways to improve the drop out ratio.
School drop out ratio in three districts — Bathinda, Mansa and Sri Muktsar Sahib — is 8.59 per cent, 8.57 per cent and 9.75 per cent respectively, far more than the average of state which is five per cent.
Cheema asked the committee consisting DEO’s (elementary and secondary education) to figure out the causes in a detailed report within one month.
