Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday said that it was unfortunate that the British Army helped the Indian Government led by the Congress under the Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to launch a major military offensive against the innocent people in terms of ‘Operation Blue Star’ in 1984.

Interacting with media persons at village Roranwali, Badal assailed the Congress for this “barbaric attack” on Sri Harmandir Sahib which not only hurt the sentiments of Sikhs but also exposed the Congress stooping too low to shatter the ethos of humanity. “The startling revelation regarding this has once again exposed the anti-Sikh stance of the Congress party…This action has inflicted a deep wound on the Sikh psyche, which has left its imprint forever,” said Badal.

He added that this act was highly condemnable and the Punjabis in general and the Sikhs in particular could never forgive the Congress for this act. Meanwhile, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and SAD chief Sukhbir Badal accused the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for seeking assistance and strategic plan from Britishers to carry out a well-planned devastating attack on pivot of Sikhism Darbar Sahib Amritsar in 1984.

Describing this extremely unfortunate and shameful act, Sukhbir said that revelations in this regard had proven that Congress was desperate to devastate the religious and holiest shrine of Sikhism at the cost of sacrificing the internal security of nation. “We could gauge the credentials of Congress from the approach adopted by Indira Gandhi since our great martyrs and freedom fighters fought a relentless freedom struggle against slavery and atrocities inflicted upon Indians by the Britishers but it was very unfortunate that the then Congress Prime Minister sought assistance from Britishers to attack the sacred Golden Temple in 1984,” he added.
