Haryana Chief Minister, Manohar lal Khattar on Saturday said the State Government would soon provide employment opportunity to outstanding sportspersons of the State not only in Police Department, but also in other Departments.
Answering a volley of questions at ‘Meet the Press’ programme at Chandigarh Press Club here, Khattar said that a committee had already been constituted to streamline the process of giving jobs to outstanding sportspersons and first meeting of the committee had already been held. It’s not possible to appoint every such sportsperson as Deputy Superintendent of Police. However, priority would be given to seek their services for promotion of sports, he added.
Asked about a separate High Court of the State, Khattar refused to be drawn in a controversy saying this had already been discussed with the Chief Justice and whatever would be decided by the committee would be acceptable to the State Government.
He also refused to comment on the issue of separate Capital of Haryana, saying at present Chandigarh is the Capital of both Haryana and Punjab, and his State had its right over Chandigarh. However, he added that it could not be said what both Punjab and Haryana would decide in future.
When asked that who would be deputed for campaigning in elections in Punjab, the Chief Minister said the BJP would contest on only 23 seats. Therefore, Central leaders go for
campaigning, but in case the party high command deputed any leader from Haryana, he would go.
Khattar said the State Government was working on the project of State Resident Data Base and removing flaws in the system to resolve land disputes. He was asked to explain if there was anything which he wanted to accomplish, but was yet to do so.
The Chief Minister said the project of State Resident Data Base had been hanging fire for the last many years and he wanted to accomplish it at the earliest so as to have detailed information about all residents as it would help in providing them various services like admission to school, immunisation and issue death certificate, at their door steps.
Khattar said there were a large number of cases of land disputes and the system had many flaws. Therefore, now a software was being developed to effectively deal with the issue.
On his biggest achievement as Chief Minister of Haryana, he described the restoration of the faith of the people in the Government as his biggest achievement.
Khattar also stated the Haryana Government was preparing a scheme to provide affordable meals to workers and poor persons living in ‘bastis’ in the State. Also, the Government was considering a proposal to increase the amount of accidental insurance for State Roadways bus passengers.
He said the Haryana Government had set a target to develop two lakh affordable houses under the ‘Deen Dayal Jan Awas Yojana’ by 2019. The ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana’ of the Central Government aimed to provide housing for all by 2022. The Chief Minister was replying to a question about the schemes being prepared by the State Government for the poor.
On the controversial Sutlej Yamuna lank Canal, he said the issue was with the Supreme Court whose verdict would only make the canal functional. He said the issue of Presidential Reference had been pending for the last 12 years, which was very astonishing. It appeared that the previous Governments did nothing to resolve the issue. As compared to it, the present Government had, soon after assuming office, pursued the case with the Supreme Court and the Punjab Termination of Agreements Act, 2004 was nullified. Now the issue is with the Supreme Court.
Khattar said said he had already led a delegation of all political parties to urge the President of India to make the SYl canal functional at the earliest. A written request was also made to the Prime Minister to seek his appointment also.
