Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, on Saturday, at the death anniversary of Jaswant Kaur — the mother of Rural Development Minister Surjit Singh Rakhra, said that "today, the security of the country is in peril. Due to the failure of the UPA Government on diplomatic front the image of country has suffered adversely across the globe."

Talking to mediapersons, he said the death of Sarabjit Singh in Pakistan amounted to serious lapse of Central Government on the diplomatic front.

"The Union Government has failed to check the internal as well as external aggression due to which threat was looming large on the sovereignty of the nation," he said.

Expressing shock and anguish over the death of Sarabjit Singh, Badal said that the State Government was committed to making all efforts to lend a helping hand to the family of the 'national martyr' in this hour of crisis and grief.

He said that the State Government had always stood by the family of such heroes who sacrificed their lives for the nation, adding that in future also they would continue to help the families of those innocent persons who have been languishing in the foreign jails.
