Chief Minister Manohar Lal on Tuesday dedicated the number-one state award bagged by Haryana for its outstanding achievements in the field of sanitation and cleanliness under Swachh Survekshan Grameen-2018 to the people of the state.
The award was received by the Chief Minister from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on behalf of the state, at New Delhi on Tuesday morning.
The Chief Minister while passing through four villages of district Karnal during ‘Jansampark - padyatra’ on the occasion of birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation dedicated the award to the people of Haryana.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a target to make ‘Swachh Bharat Desh’ by October 2, 2019.
He expressed happiness that people have contributed in the ‘Swachh Haryana-Swachh Bharat’ campaign as a result of which the state bagged this prestigious award today. Earlier, in terms of sanitation, Haryana was limited only to 32 per cent in 2014 which has now reached to 95 per cent in 2018, he said.
Manohar Lal said that earlier no Prime Minister had given importance of Swachhta Abhiyan of Mahatma Gandhi but Narendra Modi launched the Swachhta Abhiyan in 2014 and made people realise the dream of Mahatma Gandhi of having a neat and clean country.
The Chief Minister also said that Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister OP Dhankar has also contributed towards this success. After giving educated panchayats, the state has been made open defecation free. A campaign gets successful when NGOs and people get associated with the government for its implementation, he said.
He further said that today is the birthday anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri who gave the slogan of ‘Jai Jawan - Jai Kisan’. He was a great Prime Minister who is still remembered as an honest and devoted Prime Minister, he added.
The Chief Minister visited four villages of district Karnal and gave assurance to fulfil the demands put forth by the gram panchayats.
He also said that the State Government has no dearth of funds for development works.
“During last four years, initiatives were taken with the use of information technology to provide corruption-free governance to people. More than 4,000 police personnel have been recruited in a transparent manner and 7,000 more would be recruited in next two months,” Manohar Lal said.
He also assured that the developmental works would be undertaken all across the state on the demand of the people.
