CM convenes all party meet

With Jat agitation escalating across the state, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar has convened an all party meeting on Friday to discuss the issue of demand of reservation by the Jat community.

The decision to convene an all party meeting was taken in an emergency Cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister on Thursday evening.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister reviewed the situation arising out of the ongoing agitation by Jats demanding reservation in government jobs and educational institutions under OBC quota.

The District Administrations and the Police force have been put on alert to meet any eventuality and the Government has kept all its options open to deal with the situation, said Haryana Agriculture Minister while talking to the mediapersons after the Cabinet meeting.

He said that an all party meeting has been convened on Friday at 11 am to discuss the issue of demand of reservation by the Jats.

The state Cabinet also appealed to the agitating Jats to call off their agitation in the larger interest of Haryana.

Dhankar, a prominent Jat leader, urged the agitating Jats to exercise restrain and call off their agitation.  As a result of the ongoing agitation, the supply of essential commodities like lPG Gas, Petrol and necessary services like ambulance van have been adversely affected thus causing problems to the people. Therefore, the agitating Jats should try to get the issue resolved through negotiations and at the earliest, he added.

The BJP led State Government is facing a hard time to appease the agitating Jats in Haryana. Also, the rift between BJP Jat leaders and  Kurukshetra MP Raj Kumar Saini is getting wider everyday due to verbal attacks and anti-Jat stand taken by Saini.

A day before, the Chief Minister had a meeting with a section of agitating Jats here and he had announced to enhance the quota of reservation in government jobs and for admission to educational institutions for economically backward classes from 10 to 20 per cent. However, the proposal was rejected by Jats who continued their agitation for the fifth day on Thursday.

To appease the agitating Jats, the State Government has already constituted a committee headed by Chief Secretary to study all aspects of the issue of reservation for special backward classes and suggest the best way forward.  Although the Committee is said to submit its report by March 31, the Chief Minister has asked them to submit it before the ensuing session of Haryana Vidhan Sabha.
