Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday assured the House that work on repair of damaged link roads was moving on fast track and would be completed within the next one year to ensure a smooth ride through the State.

Capt Amarinder, responding to a question in the Vidhan Sabha raised by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Rupinder Kaur Ruby on the second day of the Budget Session regarding recarpeting of Teona village to Baho Sivian village link road in Bathinda, said that repair work on 34,977 kilometers of the total of 64,878 kms of the state’s link roads would be completed by the end of April for a total sanctioned cost of Rs 4,112 crore.

“The project to repair another 6,162 kms of link roads has also been initiated and would be completed in the next financial year,” he said adding that 17,600 kilometers link roads had been sanctioned for repairing the potholes at a cost of Rs 82 crore. As of now, recarpeting was being done only on roads last repaired prior to March 2014, the Chief Minister informed the House.

“This specific stretch of 3.50 kilometer was previously repaired in June 2016 and its recarpeting would now take place in the next phase of the programme, after the recarpeting of pre-2014 repaired roads is completed,” Capt Amarinder informed the AAP MLA.

Raising the issue, Bathinda Rural MLA Ruby pointed that on the road leading to Ghudda from Central University to other educational institutions, the people were facing many problems.

NGOs TO BE EXEMPTED AT STATE TOLL PLAZAS

PWD Minister Vijay Inder Singla on Tuesday informed the House that as per the new agreements, the non-government organizations (NGOs) would be exempted at the state’s toll plazas.  Singla’s assertion came after AAP MLA Kulwant Singh Pandori raised the issue. Pandori asked if the Government would consider exemption from toll tax to the NGOs while highlighting that these organizations help the people in case of natural calamities or untoward incidents.
