With an aim to make Chandigarh slum-free, the UT Administration had recently demolished the biggest slum colony number 5 of the city. The slum dwellers in Colony No. 5 were relocated to rehabilitation colony in Dhanas. The slum rehabilitation project in Dhanas is country’s largest project to rehabilitation. About 8,848 flats have been constructed in Dhanas and over 5,000 was proposed to be settled in these rehabilitation flats and the process is still going on.
The UT Master Plan-Vision 2031 has proposed to make Chandigarh a ‘slum-free’.
