Earth has always interested scientists and the space odyssey of a country has put forth the technological dominance of that country on the surface of earth. Chandigarh is all set to hit the National Space science map. The city will play host to the second National Conference on Space 2013, the theme being astronomy.
The conference is evincing a lot of interest from all stakeholders, mainly school children, due to two talks on, ‘Amazing world of Astronomy’ and ‘Search for Micro-life in Earth’s Atmosphere’ by renowned astrophysicist, Padma Vibhushan Dr Jayant V Narlikar.
He is internationally known for his work on cosmology and championing models alternative to the popularly believed ‘Big Bang’ model. The other highlight of the conference is the Night Sky watching and a quiz on astronomy for children.
The conference will be held at Tagore Theatre, Sector-18 on April 4-5. The event of space science is being organised jointly by International Space society and society for promotion of science and technology. The conference is being organised by Dikshant International School and is supported by the department of science and technology, Chandigarh.
Suresh Naik, former Group Director, ISRO, Chairman International Space Society, said, “The International Space Society aims at creating awareness about Space Science through seminars, outreach events and training programmes for enthusiasts.”
Chandrayaan-1’s phenomenal success has triggered the imagination of the student community to know more about “Space Exploration”, in this backdrop the organisation of the National Space Conference will indeed be in context, said Dharam Vir, President Society for promotion of Science and Technology in India.
“SPSTI has created a forum for intellectual debate, effective brainstorming and provides a creative outlet for India’s youth to explore the unknown, to experiment and to innovate to make our country a true Global power,” adds the President of the society. However this conference will build the future of India as it will promote the study of space science among students. The study of astronomy and space has huge contribution in shaping the contemporary society and hence it is need of the hour to promote it among the masses adds Dharam Vir.
India is soon going to launch its Mars mission, which if successful will put India on top in studies related to space in the global arena.
The objective of the upcoming conference is to give exposure to space enthusiasts, particularly students; regarding the various facets of space technologies. It will create awareness about the fascinating field of Space and inspire students to take up careers in ISRO and Astronomy,” added Naik.
