CISCE revises break-up of marks for theory and practical exams

In a move to make the exam scores acceptable to more universities, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, which conducts the exams, has revised the break-up of marks for theory and practical exams to 70-30 respectively, from the 50-50 pattern followed earlier.

A spokesperson of the CISCE said, “In keeping with the requirements of many Universities for higher education after Class XII, the break-up of marks of the theory and practical components for the subjects Computer Science, Fashion Designing, Physical Education, Indian Music (Hindustani), Indian Music (Carnatic) and Western Music have been revised from a 50-50 component to a 70-30 component, with effect from the ISC (Class XII) Examination, year 2016 onwards.”

“All Principals have been asked vide the Council’s circular dated September 10, 2015 to inform the candidates sitting for the ISC (Class XII) Year 2016 examinations, parents and all others concerned of these changes,” said he.

The Chief Executive Officer and Secretary of CISCE Gerry Arathoon said, “Taking into consideration the requirements of the Universities and that of the children, these changes have been introduced. Every concerned school has been informed through circulars issued by the board and they have been assigned the task to inform students and parents.”

The Council is expecting that the changes to the marking system will now bring it on par with other boards.
