To popularise performing arts and emphasise its significance in improving educational needs of children, a week-long Children’s Theatre Festival will be held in the City Beautiful.

Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi (CSNA) will organise the third edition of Children’s Theatre Festival from November 18-23 at Sector 17 Plaza here at 1 pm everyday. During the festival, about 20 plays will be performed which have been evolved by children during the theatre workshops conducted in various Government schools, in collaboration with UT Education Department.

A spokesperson of the CSNA said that this is a second cycle of 20 workshops, to be conducted from October 13 to November 17 in Government schools. The plays include Khwaish, Adventures of Crorepati, Right to Education, Pange Pe Panga, Ukad Dukad Dhoom Dhadaka, Rab Di Karani, Rang Birangi Duniya, Teen Ka Tadka, Bachchhon Ki Kahani Dadi Ki Zubani, Chaandi Ka Chamach, Create Karo Great Karo, Hamari Duniya, Ek Kahani Badi Purani, Bewakoofiyaan, among others, will be enacted by students of various Government schools here at Sector 17 Plaza during the Children’s Theatre Festival.

The spokesperson said that during the theatre workshops, 20 sensitive facilitators worked with the children of government schools and various aspects of children theatre were explored through children theatre exercises and improvisations.

The process of children’s theatre involves the opportunity for the participating children to evolve their own play, work in tandem with the director/facilitator in scripting and presenting the play and mounting the play production. The children go through many learning experiences and the processes and the focus smoothly shifts from learning to creating.

As a part of our approach to reach out to the children through creative activities, we have been using many techniques to break barriers to learning like interactive art activities that include the exercise of thinking skills, story-telling and related activities. Activities that help develop the participant’s visual-spatial skills. Puzzles and games that help develop figuring out skills, said the spokesperson.

The students from GMSSS-47, GMSSS-8, GSSS-Mauli Jagaran, GMSSS-16, GMSSS Sarangpur, GMSSS Sector 38W, GMHS-38 W, GSSS-45, GSSS-Behlana, GMHS-28C, GSSS- Raipur Khurd, GMSSS-40, GMSSS-Maloya, among others, would participate in the theatre festival.
