Seven-year old white tigress, named Dolly of MC Zoological Park, Chhat Bir Zoo gave birth to three offsprings (two males and a female) a few weeks ago. The father of these cubs is seven-year-old lucky. Authorities of the Zoo did not make the information public earlier as they were waiting for the well-being of the cubs. Dr Munish Kumar, field director of Chhat Bir Zoo told The Pioneer that earlier they had 11 common tigers and three white tigers but after this birth, they now have six white tigers and eight common tigers in the Zoo. “Indeed it is a big achievement for us and I will give credit to my staff”, said Kumar.

This pair of white tigers was brought from Delhi zoo. All the cubs are healthy and are result of successful breeding of white tiger in Chhat Bir Zoo. They have been kept in separate enclosure with their mother and are under close observation from the day of their birth to monitor their health and behaviour, said Harpal Singh, Block Officer (Animal Management) at the zoo.

Only zoo vets, animal keepers concerned and staff are being permitted to access these precious animals during observation period. For round the clock observation, night vision CCTV cameras with recording facility have been installed in the animal house so that animals can be observed without any disturbance to them.

Now cubs have almost completed four months of age and are being released in the tiger enclosure with their mother Dolly. The cubs are being released almost daily for limited period and are doing well, added Kumar.

Presently they are being released in the morning and are allowed to stay in the enclosure as long as their feeding time commences. They are being given all the necessary nutritional supplementation as per the need to ensure growth.
