Chautala hits out at BJP, Cong on SYl issue

Published on:

leader of Opposition and INlD’s senior leader Abhay Singh Chautala on Wednesday hit out at the ruling BJP and opposition Congress for taking a dig at INlD’s call to dig Sutlej Yamuna link (SYl) canal on February 23.

“The SYl canal is a serious issue and should not be made fun of...” said Chautala while speaking during the discussion  on Governor’s address in Haryana Vidhan Sabha.

Targeting both BJP and Congress, the INlD leader said that both parties have failed to fulfil their duties on SYl issue.

Responding to this, Chief Minister Manohar lal said, “We had welcomed you when you came back on Monday from Punjab.”

Accusing the BJP Government of ignoring the interests of people of Haryana, Chautala said that surprisingly, Haryana Government also stopped us three times when we were moving towards Punjab for digging SYl on February 23. The Government should have fought for the rights of people of Haryana instead of stopping us on that

day, he said.

He later invited both the parties to join INlD to gherao Parliament and protest at Jantar Mantar on March 15 on the SYl issue.

Terming INlD’s February 23 programme as “eventbaazi”, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ram Bilas Sharma asked the INlD not to make SYl issue a party programme.

Take a dig at INlD, he said, SYl is a serious issue though it is a different story that political parties do not have any work to do these days.

Earlier, hitting back at INlD on SYl issue, Health Minister Anil Vij said that it is not my mistake that you could not dig SYl. You disgraced the entire Haryana because you went to dig SYl but returned after eating chappatis there, said Vij.

Though INlD’s much -hyped call for digging the SYl canal in Punjab ended on last Thursday without success, the party had announced to raise the SYl issue in the ongoing budget session.

Several INlD leaders of Haryana, including Abhay Chautala, were arrested for breaching prohibitory orders on last Thursday when they were marching towards Punjab to undertake the digging of the SYl canal.
