Congress national secretary and Punjab party affairs in-charge Harish Chaudhary along with party MP Deepinder Singh Hooda on Monday met ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu in Bhatinda Jail.

Bittu is currently in judicial custody till October 31, in two cases registered against him for causing loss to public property, obstructing public servant from official duty and attacking policemen on duty during a farmers’ protest in Bathinda on September 30.

Chaudhary conveyed party vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s feelings to Bittu that the party stands by him in this hour for taking “bold initiative” for the cause of farmers.

He further conveyed that the situation in Punjab is not good that’s why the party vice-president and the senior leaders have appealed to Bittu to get his bail done and work for the betterment of the state from outside. “The present situation needs him more in the field. We hope he gets bail soon and work to restore peace and harmony in the State,” he said.

Hooda, also the chief whip of the party in the Parliament, said that Bittu has taken up the cause of farmers of Punjab who are in a very bad shape due to anti-farmer policies of the Modi and Badal Governments.

“Now, in the coming Parliament session, the notice will be given by the entire Congress party MPs in the House to enable Bittu to take up this cause of farmers in the House,” he said.
