After stirring a hornet’s nest by describing AAP national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as “kale angrez”, his Punjab counterpart Charanjit Singh Channi on Tuesday called him “a disease like coronavirus which we don’t want”.
“Kejriwal is like coronavirus for Punjab. We do not want diseases from outside,” said Channi while addressing a public meeting in Morinda, addressing Anganwadi workers. Notably, Kejriwal has been tested positive for the Covid-19, and the AAP leader shared the information on his Twitter handle on Tuesday. He has isolated himself at home.
“I called the Chief Minister of Delhi in the morning and inquired about his condition and said that I pray that he gets well soon. But Kejriwal wants to rule Punjab by coming from outside. He is like coronavirus for Punjab. We should not take such a disease that comes from outside and catches us,” said Channi.
Kejriwal has urged all those, who came in contact with him over the past few days, to quarantine and get tested. “I have tested positive for Covid. Mild symptoms. Have isolated myself at home. Those who came in touch wid (with) me in last few days, kindly isolate urself (yourself) and get urself tested,” Kejriwal said on Twitter.
This is reportedly the first time he has contracted the viral infection.
Last year in April, his wife Sunita had tested positive for Covid-19, and despite developing some symptoms, the CM tested negative. Also, several ministers in Kejriwal’s Cabinet, including Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Health Minister Satyendar Jain, Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot, and Environment Minister Gopal Rai had contracted Covid-19.
