Aam Aadmi Party national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday attacked his Punjab counterpart Charanjit Singh Channi over the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids, during which Rs eight crores were seized from Congress leader’s nephew’s premises.
Minutes after Channi addressed the media accusing the Centre of misusing central probe agencies to discredit him, Kejriwal took to Twitter and shared the viral pictures of the recovered money with the caption, “Channi is not an aam aadmi (common man), but a dishonest one”.
Kejriwal also quoted a news agency report with his tweet, that says cash and property-related papers were recovered by the ED after raids on Channi’s nephew’s house.
Channi, earlier in the day, took a dig at Kejriwal accusing him of strengthening the BJP's hand. Claiming that Kejriwal was “very happy” about the raids in Punjab, Channi said that Kejriwal's relative was also arrested by the Enforcement Directorate.
Meanwhile, AAP’s Punjab affairs co-in-charge Raghav Chadha wondered how much wealth would be discovered if raids were conducted on Chief Minister’s own premises.
Chadha, addressing the media, said that according to available information, cash worth Rs 10 crore, bank entries of Rs 56 crore, luxury cars, around Rs 21 lakh of gold and property papers have been seized during the ongoing raid. “If so many things have been found from Punjab CM’s nephew, how much of such valuables will be found if the ED raids other nephews and relatives of the chief minister,” he said.
Chadha added that Channi's nephew did not have much wealth even till a few months ago. “All this wealth was accumulated in the last 111 days, the same period since Channi became the chief minister of Punjab,” he alleged.
“Just imagine how much wealth would be discovered if raids were conducted on his (Channi) own premises,” said the AAP leader.
CHANNI SHOULD QUIT FOR BEING HAND-IN-GLOVE WITH SAND MAFIA: BJP
BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Wednesday demanded resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi for patronizing his family members in clandestine sand mining in the State. “ED raids have established that the Congress has been running sand mafias in the State under the Chief Minister’s nose,” said Chugh. At the same time, Chugh debunked the Chief Minister's argument that it was Centre's vendetta. He said that recovery of Rs 10 crore from CM's nephew clearly proved that he continued recklessly in illegal sand mining for so long. “It is known all over the State that the Congress Government has been patronizing liquor and sand mafias in Punjab,” he added.
STOP BLAMING ME FOR YOUR FAMILY’S CRIMES: CAPT
Reacting to Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s allegations against him for being behind the ED raids in Punjab, his predecessor Capt Amarinder Singh on Wednesday lashed out at Congress leader pointing that ED “doesn’t report to me nor did I plant the money seized from your kin.” “...Stop blaming me for your family’s crimes. As I always say, the law takes its own course, something that Congress forgot when they accused me of shielding culprits,” said Capt Amarinder, who heads Punjab Lok Congress, an ally of BJP.
