The main hospital for the defence forces, Command Hospital, Chandimandir has developed a road corridor for prompt transportation of transplant organs to Delhi. In another significant move, the hospital will soon develop an air corridor to Delhi for organ transplant.

Major General Rajvir Singh, the Commandant of Command Hospital Chandimandir on Thursday said that a green road corridor between the Hospital and Chandigarh airport has been developed to transport the organs to be transported quickly in just nine minutes has been prepared.

Disclosing this on the occasion of World Organ Donation Day, the Commandant informed that another proposal to prepare an air corridor between Chandigarh and Delhi for the same purpose is also on anvil.

The event was marked by a motivating talk and video film on organ donation by Sudhir Dewan, Director, MOHAN (Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network) Foundation who espoused the virtues of organ donation for the patients with end stage disease. He emphasized that there is an extreme shortfall of organs and most patients die on the waiting list. He appreciated Maj Gen Rajvir Singh, the Commandant, Command Hospital (WC) and his organ retrieval team for leading the way in this noble venture.

The next of kin and families of the deceased donors were felicitated by Dr. D.P. lochan DGHS, Government of Haryana and Maj Gen Manmohan Singh, the MG Medical of HQ Western Command. They were accorded special status and a scroll of honour and memento were presented to them.

There was the flagging off of the "Green Corridor" from Command Hospital (Western Command) to the Chandigarh Airport. The mock-situation was that of a liver being transplanted to save the patient's life. The total journey that takes almost 45 minutes was completed under the leadership of ASI Balbir Singh.

Under Col. Anuj Sharma, Command Hospital, Chandimandir has been a leading hospital in Northern India to promote organ donation activities and has carved out a niche for itself by carrying out eight multi-organ retrievals of liver, kidneys and corneas, including from PGIMER, Chandigarh in record time.
