Chandigarh traffic police to use simulators for driving test now

In a move to bring greater transparency in getting driving licenses, Chandigarh traffic police is all set to use fully-automated simulators to conduct driving tests in the City beautiful. With the new system which Chandigarh traffic police is keen to implement, all interface with traffic officials will end and the process of getting a driving license will be without any human interface.

The Traffic police has sent a proposal to the Central Institute for Road Transportation (CIRT), to replace the old traditional driving test system with a newly developed simulator. Manish Chaudhry, Senior SP (Traffic) said, “The idea is to minimize human interface in the driving test system so that corruption can be controlled.”

Once the candidate takes a test on a simulator and has passed it, the official at the window will have no option but to issue a driving license. There will be no room for touts or middlemen, the SSP told The Pioneer. Chaudhry said the simulator will be designed by an IT company and would incorporate all aspects of driving and can emulate different kinds of driving situations which a driver may encounter on the road.

Once the simulator system is implemented in City, those who want a driving license will be asked to give their driving test not in the open field but on the simulators, which will be completely controlled by computers and the result generated by computer will decide if the candidate is eligible for a license or not.
