Further investigations into the multi-crore synthetic drug racket busted by the Punjab Police revealed opulent lifestyle of Jagjit Singh Chahal — one of the major suppliers caught recently, and his co-accused Maninder Singh Aulakh’s tainted past.

Conducting a thorough check of the background of all the persons involved in the drug racket, it has been found that Chahal has nothing less than six luxury cars bearing 0001 numbers, and seven mobile phones with its number ending in 00001. On the other hand, investigations revealed that Aulakh’s father had faced cases of gold smuggling and under

the Opium Act. The Punjab Police, of late, arrested drug racket mastermind Jagdish Bhola and his four associates, along with two major suppliers — Chahal and Aulakh. “We are focussing on conducting a thorough background check of all persons involved in the drug racket so as to cross-check all their linkages and connections, said Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police, Hardyal Singh Mann.

He said that the Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine (DHMS) acquired by Chahal in 1993 from Patna has come under scanner and its authenticity was being verified from concerned authorities. “The verification of Chahal’s background has revealed an opulent life style with a penchant for luxury cars having single digit numbers (0001) and single digit mobile numbers as well,” he said.

The investigations, so far, has uncovered that he has land Cruiser, Freelander Range Rover, Prado, Hyundai Terracan, Toyota liva, Honda Accord, and Hero Honda bike with their registration numbers 0001 costing Rs 31.45 lakh. Besides, Chahal also possesses seven mobile numbers ending with 00001 at a total cost of Rs 3.60 lakh.

The SSP informed that it has also come to light that Aulakh alias Bittu Aulakh visited Pakistan in 2004 for watching Indo-Pak cricket match. “Investigations revealed that Aulakh’s family has a similar background and his father Master Partap Singh faced cases of gold smuggling and Opium Act,” added Mann. Mann said that he was once transferred from Amritsar to Samana in Patiala in 1994 as punishment and “from where he retired. He is also a close relative of notorious smuggler late Paramjit Pamma Madoke”.
