Centre denies fund for Guru's birth anniversary, alleges Jakhar

Punjab Congress chief and Gurdaspur MP Sunil Jakhar on Thursday lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Central Government for denying funds to celebrate Guru Nanak Dev’s 550th birth anniversary.

“It is unfortunate that the Central Government has not released funds to celebrate Guru Nanak Dev’s 550th birth anniversary...

The Punjab Government had approached the Union Government in this connection but no provision has been made in this budget by the Union Finance Minister,” he rued.

Jakhar said that Telugu Desam Party, a partner of NDA, had quit two berths in the Union Cabinet as Modi Government turned down the demand for a special package to Andhra Pradesh.

However, in the greed of only one ministerial post, the Shiromani Akali Dal had mortgaged the interests of Punjab with Modi Government.

“SAD had never put any pressure on the Centre over the issues concerning farmers or for release of fund for Gurpurab celebration,” he said.
