Capt's announcement of debt waiver mere poll stunt: Badal

Published on:

Targeting Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Capt Amarinder Singh over his recent declaration of waving of debts of farmers if given a chance to rule Punjab, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Friday asked what was Amarinder doing when he was in power in Punjab and had his party’s Government at the CentreIJ

Badal, addressing the media persons on the sidelines of his sangat darshan at Naushera Nal Banda and Foolda village, termed Capt Amarinder’s announcement of debt waiver as merely an ‘election stunt’.

“Captain is just shedding crocodile tears on the issue just in false hope of regaining power in the state. Had Captain been serious on this issue, he might have got this issue resolved during tenure of UPA-I, when he was head of the state,” said Badal.

He added that Capt Amarinder neither has vision nor the will power to get this issue resolved but was now just raising this issue to mislead the people.

“The entire state is aware about the anti-farmer stance of lok Sabha MP…During his tenure as Chief Minister, Captain had imposed power tariff on farmers which was waived off during SAD-BJP alliance government,” he said.

“Did he provide benefits to Punjab’s farmers that the SAD has done by providing farmers with free power to cultivate their lands,” Badal asked.

“He (Captain) is only making false promises and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is also following him by doing the same thing to allure the voters of Punjab,” the Chief Minister added.

Badal said that the SAD-BJP alliance government believed in actions whereas both the Congress and AAP were trying to mislead the people through hollow and false slogans.

“The work of state government was in front of everybody whereas the Congress and AAP were just selling dreams. I hope that people would support the alliance government for unprecedented development works in the state,” he said.

The five-time Chief Minister claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government at the Centre and Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP alliance in Punjab were a must for the state’s growth.

Badal claimed that the unprecedented growth of the state was an example and people must opt for the SAD-BJP combine in the upcoming Punjab assembly elections. He said that Punjab will be ruined if the Congress or the AAP are chosen.

Irked with many surveys going against the ruling party, Badal claimed that in the last assembly elections too surveys had shown them in poor light. “But the people know what the outcome was,” he said.

Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Badal claimed that the country was in the hands of an expert who was not only doing his best for the country but was also active internationally. “He has brought back the lost glory of the nation,” Badal added.

On allegations of state AAP leadership regarding sale of tickets by SAD, Badal said that every single person of the state know that AAP has sold tickets to aspirants due to which widespread resentment was prevailing in its cadres. By levelling false allegations on SAD the AAP was trying to hide its sins, he added.
