Capt to urge Defence Minister to simplify clearances for war movies

Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday said that he would urge the Union Defence Minister to simplify and expedite clearances required for shooting war movies and biopics on war heroes.

Capt Amarinder made this assurance to renowned film producer-director JP Dutta, when the latter called on the Chief Minister along with the team of his next movie — Paltan — centered around the 1967 India-China clashes at Nathu la (Sikkim).

Dutta, who is currently shooting for the movie in Punjab, said that the film-makers were seriously constraint by the fact that multiple clearances were required while making defence-related movies which led to major delays, often deterring film-makers from making such movies.

Sharing the film-maker’s concern, Capt Amarinder said that he would raise the issue with the Defence Minister. “It was in the interest of the defence forces as such movies could help inspire youngsters to join the armed forces,” said Capt Amarinder, himself an ex-Army official and a military historian.
