Capt throwing tantrums for his own survival: Badal

Published on:

Amidst intense infighting in the senior leadership of the State Congress unit, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday said that senior Congress leader Capt Amarinder Singh, who has been “rejected twice” by the Punjabis, is resorting to tantrums for saving his own existence in politics as he knows that his party would soon expel him.

When Capt Amarinder was the Chief Minister, he kept the Punjabis at a distance and did not carry out any development works for Punjab, said Sukhbir after inaugurating the Rural Sports Festival organised on the occasion of birth anniversary of Baba Farid.

Sukhbir alleged that the previous Congress Government even stopped schemes started for the welfare of people by the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janta Party Government. “People of Punjab are well aware of the anti-state policies of Capt Amarinder Singh as well as the Congress party,” he said.

Capt Amarinder has been hogging limelight for missing Congress rally at Delhi on Sunday and reportedly being cold shouldered by the high command for his desire to be elected as Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief or his nominee be elevated to the post.

Congress is plagued by severe infighting in Punjab with the PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa and former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal too airing their views against Capt Amarinder openly.

‘AAP’S REAl FACE OUT IN OPEN, KEJRI A DICTATOR’

Sukhbir, also the SAD president, said that the real face of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has come into open now and its leaders, who often preach of moral values, are themselves not following them.

“Almost every day, one AAP MlA or the other is getting entangled into criminal cases in Delhi, so one can easily imagine the double standards of AAP and its leaders,” he said.

Sukhbir said that AAP was a party whose dictator was Arvind Kejriwal, the party’s national convener and Delhi Chief Minister.

“Now, everyone knew that there is nothing called democracy in AAP, besides the fact that the party has failed to fulfill all its promises…The lokpal is yet to take final shape in Delhi, even as taxes have been increased,” he said.

COTTON-GROWERS TO BE GIVEN relief NEXT WEEK

Deputy Chief Minister said that the State Government would distribute the compensation amount, it has already issued for the farmers whose cotton crop was damaged and they had to plough it, amongst the farmers under direct supervision of Deputy Commissioners from next week onwards.

“It is sad that some politicians are politicising this serious issue for their own vested interests,” he said.

He said that the white fly had damaged the cotton crop not only in Punjab, but also in Haryana and Rajasthan.

Sukhbir announced that to make sure white fly does not damage the cotton crop in coming years, the agricultural universities of Punjab and Haryana have been asked to carry out joint research.
