Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has written to Union Civil Aviation Minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju, requesting for renaming of the Adampur Airport domestic terminal in honour of Sri Guru Ravi Dass.

Capt Amarinder has written to the Union Minister seeking his support in the matter considering the sentiments of the Sikh community, which highly revere Guru Ravi Dass, the great mystic-poet and founder of the Bhakti Movement.

He took up the matter with the Union Minister after Member of Parliament Santokh Singh Chaudhary and several MlAs from Jalandhar met him with a request to this effect on Friday.

Chaudhary, in a written communication to the Chief Minister, said that there was a popular demand from the predominant SC, ST population in Doaba region for the renaming of the domestic terminal in memory of Sri Guru Ravi Dass.

The demand had been endorsed by former MPs and MlAs of all political parties, both general and SC/ST categories, said Chaudhary, adding that he had personally met the Union Civil Aviation Minister in this regard and wanted the Punjab Government to officially raise the demand with the Centre.

Chaudhary expressed happiness at the fact that the Doaba region was all set to start domestic flights from September 26.
