Congress Deputy leader in the lok Sabha and Amritsar MP Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday welcomed the announcement of Heritage Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) for Amritsar by the Centre and hoped that it will help to restore and redeem the heritage status of the holy city. “I thank Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely on behalf of the people of Amritsar for this step which should hopefully help in its overall improvement befitting its status and place in our culture and history,” he said.
He also hailed the announcement of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) for Amritsar and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for Bathinda.
At the same time, he said that the Central Government should take over the PIMS which is virtually closed even after an investment of about Rs 1,000 crores by the Punjab government.
He said that converting the PIMS into AIIMS will fulfil the demand of and cater to the needs of the Doaba region also. Thanking Jaitley for these projects, he hoped that these are taken to their logical conclusion. “Amritsar holds special place in history, heritage, culture and religion of the people…With HRIDAY, the city should get the right facelift it deserves,” he said.
